On January 18, 1999 The Shalom Team Leadership Group with support from ACCGL held a Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration. The free event offered participants a taste of Africa and African/American Heritage cooking, poetry readings, music, art from the Shalom Initiative Afterschool program, and a reading of Rev. King's "I Have a Dream Speech".
Last year's celebration drew over 100 visitors and the Teen Group was awarded the Interracial Cooperation Community Awareness Award by the Ohio Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Commission for their work.
